Welcome from the New Chair!

welcome from the new chair
  • February 7, 2023

Hi everyone, and welcome to another edition of UPEC’s newsletter – the first under our new chair, yours truly! (If you signed up for our mailing list at our 8 billion event in the fall, this is your first email newsletter from us; we promised that we don’t overload your inbox!)

To back up for a moment, my name is Susan Soleil, and I am thrilled to be UPEC’s new Board Chair. I served on the Board in the past but then got busy and needed to take a break. Now I am back and excited to re-engage, as I have always supported UPEC. I like all of the people who serve on the Board. I love the mission of UPEC. And I love this beautiful state. All of those passions prompted me to be involved in an organization that, for 25 years, has been looking at the complicated relationship between growing populations (locally and globally) and our dwindling resources – water, food, land, animals, forests, oceans, etc.

If you share a passion for these issues and want to be involved, please reach out to us. You can email me (Susan Soleil)  at susansoleil@utahpopulation.org. We are always looking for new people to infuse UPEC with fresh ideas and energy.

In the meantime, as always, you can use this newsletter to catch up on our latest original content. UPEC Treasurer Gray Griffin recently posted a wonderful short summary of UPEC’s first 25 years.

If you missed our 8 billion people event at Proper Burger last November – thanks to everyone who made the night a great success! – please read about it here.

And, if your head is spinning after the legal and healthcare chaos that came to Utah when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, please read this piece about what it’s like for a physician in Utah. Red Rocks and Redder Reproductive Politics

Thanks so much, Susan

P.S. Please find us on social media and support UPEC online.
